Daily Block Puzzle

Original

Play the free daily block puzzle: the same pieces for everyone each day, one attempt, and a streak for every day you reach 1,000 points.

By PlayToffeePuzzle GamesWorks on mobile & desktopUpdated October 5, 2026

Daily block puzzle gives you one game a day with the very same pieces as every other player. Drag shapes onto an 8x8 board, clear rows and columns, and try to reach 1,000 points before the board fills up. You get one attempt per day, and every day you hit the goal adds to your daily streak. It is free in your browser, takes about as long as a coffee break, and needs no sign-up.

What is Daily Block Puzzle?

Daily Block Puzzle is our block puzzle of the day. The rules are the same as classic Block Puzzle: place pieces from a tray of three onto the board, fill whole rows or columns to clear them, and keep going until no piece fits. The difference is the pieces. Instead of random shapes every game, the daily game uses a sequence of pieces chosen for that UTC day, and every player on PlayToffee gets the same sequence.

That turns a solo puzzle into something you can share. Since everyone starts from an empty board with the same pieces, scores are directly comparable. Send a friend your score, compare how many lines you cleared, or see who in the family can reach 1,000 first.

You get one attempt. Once your daily game ends, or you start a new game from the menu partway through, today is done, so it pays to take your time. There is no timer, and you can think as long as you like about every placement.

How to Play Daily Block Puzzle

  1. Open today's game. Come to this page any time during the UTC day and today's pieces load automatically. The label at the top shows the date, with the 1,000-point goal beside your score.
  2. Drag a piece onto the board. A shadow shows where it will land, and any row or column it would complete lights up.
  3. Clear rows and columns. Every full line disappears, freeing space. Clearing several at once earns a big bonus.
  4. Use all three pieces. When the tray is empty, three new pieces arrive. Pieces cannot be rotated.
  5. Chase 1,000 points. You will see a message when you reach the goal. Keep playing to push your score higher.
  6. Pause any time. Your game saves after every placement, so you can close the tab and finish later the same day.
  7. Come back tomorrow. When the game ends, your attempt is recorded. A new set of pieces arrives with the next UTC day.

Tips & Strategies

The daily game is all about reaching 1,000 points on a single try, so these tips focus on staying alive and scoring steadily.

  1. Play slowly. There is no clock and only one attempt. Before each move, look at all three pieces and decide on an order.
  2. Protect room for big pieces. The 3x3 square and five-block lines end more games than anything else. Keep at least one open 3x3 area if you can.
  3. Build toward multi-line clears. One line is worth 20 points, two lines 60, three lines 120, and four lines 200. Setting up two or three nearly full lines and finishing them together is the fastest way to 1,000.
  4. Keep the combo going. Every clearing placement grows your combo, worth an extra 30 points per step. The combo survives two placements without a clear, so aim to clear at least every third piece.
  5. Avoid lonely holes. Single empty cells boxed in by blocks can only take a single block. Fill edges and corners neatly to keep the board clean.
  6. Finish before the day ends. Autosave means you can play half now and the rest later, but the game has to be completed during the same UTC day.
  7. Practise first if you like. Classic Block Puzzle uses the same rules with random pieces, which makes it a good warm-up.

How the Daily Block Puzzle Works

The daily game runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), so a player in New York, London, or Sydney gets the same pieces during the same UTC day. For players in the United States, the new game arrives in the evening. During daylight saving time it switches at 8 p.m. Eastern, 7 p.m. Central, 6 p.m. Mountain, and 5 p.m. Pacific, one hour earlier in winter.

The same pieces for everyone. Each day's sequence is generated from the date, so every player is dealt the same pieces in the same order, however they play them. One fairness rule can step in: if a brand-new tray contains no piece that fits your board anywhere, it is re-rolled so you are not stuck. Since that depends on your board, it is the one case where your tray can differ from someone else's.

One attempt, one goal. When no piece in your tray fits, the game ends and today's attempt is recorded, along with your score. Reach 1,000 points and the daily counts as solved. Your daily streak counts the UTC days in a row on which you hit that goal; finishing below 1,000 or skipping a day starts it again. Your best daily score and best streak are kept too, all stored in your browser with no account needed.

Scoring is the same as in the classic game: +1 per block placed, +10 × L × (L + 1) for L lines cleared at once, and +30 × (combo − 1) for back-to-back clears.

Daily Block Puzzle FAQ

When does the daily block puzzle reset?

A new daily game starts at the beginning of each UTC day. In the United States that is in the evening of the previous calendar day: 8 p.m. Eastern during daylight saving time and 7 p.m. Eastern in winter.

Does everyone get the same pieces?

Yes. Every player is dealt the same sequence of pieces on the same UTC day. The only exception is the fairness rule: if a fresh tray would have no piece that fits your board, it is re-rolled, so that tray can differ from someone else's.

How many tries do I get?

One. When your daily game ends, today's attempt is used up. You can keep playing practice games with random pieces for the rest of the day.

How does the daily streak work?

Your streak grows each time you reach 1,000 points in the daily game on consecutive UTC days. If you miss a day, or finish below 1,000, the streak starts again.

What can I play after today's daily block puzzle?

Choose Play a practice game when today's daily is done, or switch to classic Block Puzzle, which deals fresh random pieces every game.

Do I need an account to keep my streak?

No. There is no sign-up. Your streak and stats are stored in your browser, so play on the same device and browser to keep them.
