PlayToffee is an independent web game studio and arcade. We design and build our own browser games, which we call PlayToffee Originals, and we curate a selection of licensed HTML5 games from other developers. Everything on the site is free to play, works on phones and computers, and starts in seconds with no download and no sign-up.
Our Mission
We think a good game should be one tap away. Too many "free" games today ask you to install an app, create an account, hand over an email address, or sit through a wall of pop-ups before you can play. PlayToffee exists to be the opposite: open a page, play a game, close the tab when you are done.
Our goals are simple:
- Instant play. Every game runs in a standard web browser. Nothing to install, nothing to update.
- No accounts. We do not ask for your name, email or password. Your progress lives on your own device.
- Quality over quantity. We would rather offer a smaller collection of games that work well than thousands that do not.
- Respect for players. Clear pages, honest information about ads and privacy, and content suitable for a broad audience.
How We Make PlayToffee Originals
PlayToffee Originals are games we design and code ourselves from scratch. Our first Original was Sudoku, available in Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert difficulties plus a Daily puzzle. It was followed by Solitaire in Klondike, Turn 3 and Pyramid versions, and Block Puzzle, which also has a daily challenge.
Here is what goes into every Original:
- Built in-house. Game logic, layout and interface are written by our team in modern HTML5, CSS and JavaScript. We do not reskin templates.
- Original artwork and sound. We do not use other companies' trademarks, characters or branding. Our sound effects are synthesized in code rather than taken from sample libraries, which keeps games small and quick to load.
- Tested on real devices. Before launch, each game is played on phones, tablets and desktop browsers to make sure touch controls feel natural and layouts fit every screen.
- Automatic saving. Your current game, statistics, best times and settings are saved in your browser's local storage as you play, so you can leave and return without losing progress. Nothing is sent to our servers.
- Daily challenges. Our Originals can include a daily puzzle that is the same for every player worldwide during each UTC day, so you can build a streak and compare notes with friends. Sudoku has one today.
How We Choose Third-Party Games
Alongside our Originals, PlayToffee features HTML5 games made by independent developers and studios. We only use games that are offered for embedding through licensed distribution platforms, currently GameDistribution and GameMonetize. These platforms license games to websites like ours, and the developers are paid through them.
Before a licensed game is added to PlayToffee, a member of our team plays it on both mobile and desktop. We check that it loads reliably, that the controls work on touchscreens, and that its content is appropriate for a general audience. We skip games with graphic violence, gambling mechanics or adult themes.
Every licensed game page names the original developer, and the game itself remains the property of its creator. Licensed games run inside an embedded frame provided by the distribution platform and may show their own ads. If you are a rights holder with a concern about a game, please see our DMCA policy.
How PlayToffee Stays Free
PlayToffee is funded by advertising. We show display ads from Google AdSense around our pages, and we may show short ads inside our own games through Google's ad tools for HTML5 games. Licensed third-party games also include ads served by their distribution platforms, which support the developers who made them.
We keep ads clearly separated from game controls and try hard not to let them get in the way of play. We do not sell anything, there are no in-game purchases, and we never ask for payment details. To learn more about how ads and analytics work on the site, read our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
A Site for Everyone
PlayToffee is built for players of all ages, and we choose games with that in mind. Our Originals contain no violence, chat features or user-generated content. That said, the site is supported by ads and includes games from third parties, so we recommend that parents supervise younger children while they play online, as they would on any website.
