Why Play Card Games Online?

Card games have been a favorite way to pass the time for centuries, and for good reason. A single deck of 52 cards supports an enormous range of games, from quiet solo puzzles to strategic contests, and every shuffle produces a new challenge. Playing online keeps all of that charm while removing the hassle: no lost cards, no setup, and no shuffling by hand.

Solo card games in particular are a perfect fit for a browser. A round of Solitaire takes only a few minutes, it can be paused at any point, and the mix of luck and planning makes every deal feel a little different. It is the kind of game that is easy to start and surprisingly hard to put down.

Types of Card Games

Solitaire (patience) games are played alone. You arrange cards according to set rules, usually aiming to sort the whole deck into suits from Ace to King. Klondike, the classic version, deals seven columns and asks you to build down in alternating colors.

Spider and FreeCell variants offer different flavors of patience. Spider uses two decks and rewards long-term planning, while FreeCell gives you a few spare cells and makes almost every deal solvable with careful play.

Matching and pairing games ask you to remove cards in pairs or sequences. They tend to be faster and lighter than traditional patience games.

Trick-taking and shedding games such as Hearts are usually played against opponents, and they reward memory and reading the table.

Tips for Playing Solitaire Well

  • Uncover hidden cards first. Moves that reveal face-down cards in the tableau are almost always more valuable than moves that do not.
  • Do not rush cards to the foundation. Sometimes a low card is more useful in the tableau, where it can hold a card of the opposite color.
  • Empty columns are precious. Only fill an empty column with a King when it actually helps you free up other cards.
  • Think before drawing. Look over the whole tableau before turning the next card from the stock.

Card Games on PlayToffee

Our card games are designed and coded entirely in-house. Solitaire is the classic Klondike game where you turn one card at a time, the most relaxed way to play. 3 Card Solitaire turns three cards at once, so you can only reach every third card in the stock and need to plan further ahead. Pyramid Solitaire is a faster matching game: remove pairs that add up to 13 until the whole pyramid is gone.

Every game has unlimited undo, hints when you are stuck, automatic saving and personal statistics, with smooth drag-and-drop on touchscreens. If you enjoy calm, thoughtful games, try our Sudoku as well. Our card games will always be free, and they will never involve real-money betting.

Card Games FAQ

Which card games can I play on PlayToffee?

Right now you can play classic Klondike Solitaire (turn one card), 3 Card Solitaire (turn three cards) and Pyramid Solitaire. All three are PlayToffee Originals, and more card games will follow.

Are the card games free?

Yes. Every card game on PlayToffee is completely free and supported by ads. There is no real-money gambling of any kind.

Is every Solitaire deal winnable?

Our deals are checked by a solver before you see them, so nearly every game can be won with good play. A small number of deals still could not be proven solvable in time, so an occasional unwinnable deal is possible.

Will my progress and stats be saved?

Can I play card games on my phone?

Yes. Our card games are designed for touchscreens first: tap a card to move it to the best spot, or drag it where you want. They also work with a mouse and keyboard on desktop.
